Teachers and the management of Shondoni Secondary School in Lwamondo village outside Thohoyandou are saddened after the school administration block was torched last Friday. It is believed that the
torching of the admin block is not related to the Vuwani unrest which saw around 30 schools torched and vandalised during demarcation protests in the area.
The principal of the school, Humbulani Rampfumedzi says he was left stunned after he received a call from one of the community members who informed him that that the school administration block was on fire. “We quickly rushed to the scene and witness the incident, and immediately informed the police,” he says.
According to the principal, four computers, printers, safe, steel cabinet and all the administration block’s padlocks at the school were destroyed in the fire and the damage is estimated at R1.2 million.
The Limpopo Department of Education was informed about the incident. “We are also saddened to hear of what happened at Shondoni Secondary School” says Sam Makondo, the spokesperson of the Limpopo Department of Education.
Further adding that the school was supplied with food to feed learners in the school since the food supply was also destroyed in the fire. Makondo has also assured parents and learners that teaching and learning at the School would continue as normal despite the setback.

In conclusion, the Pro-Makhado demarcation Task Team, which led violent protests in the area in 2016 has condemned the attack, insisting that it had no hand in it.
