The greatest tragedy is a life without a purpose

By Tshimangadzo Mphaphuli

At 27, it’s befitting to say Hlulani Maluleke is a dynamite in a ‘young’ package. From Malamulele to the world, Maluleke is breaking ground and leaving no stone unturned in his goal to raise 10 000 leaders for Africa. He is a recognised business coach and a professional speaker with a focus’s on personal and professional development. He has been a keynote speaker for government agencies, private corporations, universities and professional conferences. Speaking to Pride News, he tells us how he is impacting lives of young and old through his leadership and growth consultancy organisation – Be Inspired!

Background
Pride News: Tell us about your academic and career background and the path that led you to set up MHI Leadership Firm.
MH: I attended law school at the University of Johannesburg and also completed a 6-month programme in Business Management and Public Speaking with Dr. GA Leachuti. Pride News: Who has made a positive impact to become who you are?

MH: Dr. Myles Munroe has played a huge role in the person I have become. He transformed my life the first day I encountered his quote, “The greatest tragedy on earth is not death but a life without a purpose.” Pride News: What is your aim through MHI Leadership Firm?
MH: Our overall aim is to make Africa the headquarters of global leadership solutions.
Pride News: What is your vision as MHI?

Pride News: Our vision is clear – raising 10 000 leaders for Africa. We do this every year by running 6 months business and leadership growth programmes.

Purpose
Pride News: Your work inspires people to live a life of purpose. What is a purposeful life?
MH: A purposeful life is an intentional life. It is a life with a clear intention and vision. People fail to live an intentional life when they allow society to define who they are and what they should be. A life on purpose is a life that is centred on your talents, gifts and capabilities, not a life measured by standards imposed by the society you live in. Pride News: How does one define or discover their purpose?
MH: Discover your gift and recover your place in the race of life. Until you pay attention to your unique self the world will not pay attention to you.

Success against all odds
Pride News: Many people want to start a business or change their lives in one way or the other, but fear often gets in the way. How does one deal with fear?

MH: When faith walks out, fear walks in. When your passion for your Ideas is strong enough, fear naturally dies. Martin Luther King Jnr said, “If a man hasn’t discovered something that he will die for, he isn’t fit to live.”

Pride News: How did you start MHI and what odds did you encounter? MH: When I started MHI Leadership Firm, I was younger and inexperienced. I did not have someone doing what I wanted to do,as a result, I found it hard to break into the South African market.

To get to where I am, was as a result of research. I place more value on knowledge than my car or house. Any challenge you face in life is either a result of ignorance or arrogance. I discovered early in life that if you can pursue knowledge, you can break out of any set-back in life. Maluleke’s has recently published his first book, Connecting Talent Ability to Business Mentality and notes that he wants to be remembered for developing and raising leaders in developing nations. In parting, he quotes Dr. John Tibane who said, “every set-back is a set-up for a come-back,” be encouraged!
