Modimolle-Mookgophong municipality works to improve water quality

By: Sarah Maluleke

The Modimolle Mookgophong municipality has assured residents that stringent tests are being done to ensure
that the water supplied to households is 100% safe to drink.

This as residents in the Democratic Alliance led coalition municipality continue to experience water related challenges including discolouration and shortages.

Residents who have taken to social media to express their frustration claim that their tap water is brownish in
colour.

Mayor Marlene Van Staden says she is aware of the water crisis in the municipal area, adding that several meetings have been called to address the challenges.

In a statement issued earlier this week Van Staden says, “The water quality team has been on ground the whole day testing and monitoring the water source. They have established that they have to increase the pumping rates from the sources”.

Van Staden further says that, one of the contributing factors to water shortages is that Magalies Water which provides quality bulk water directly to the municipality once cut their supplies to the municipality’s reservoirs without warning.

She however, says Magalies Water has since resumed with their water supply to the municipality.
For now, the municipality says it will continue dispatching water tankers to Phagameng township, which has
been the hardest hit.
