MAPELA: Mogalakwena Platinum Mine in collaboration with Mogalakwena Local Municipality, Container Corporation (CONCOR) and Nale Holdings Solly Msimanga brought joy to learners of Podile Primary School in Mapela after they donated laptops and school furniture’s to local communities at the Mogalakwena Platinum Mine premises in Mapela, recently.
The purpose of the meeting was to tackle some of the needs of the community in Mapela. School furniture comprised of desks, tables, chairs were donated to Podile primary school in Molekane village.
The donation follows the communities after the school principal Mr Lesibana Nkoko wrote a letter to Mogalakwena Platinum Mine requesting for donation of school furniture of Phafola, Danisani, Molekane and Sterkwater.
One of the three headmen, Mr Baloyi was excited and expressed his gratitude to the donors.
“I would like to thank the mine and our municipality for the efforts they took, it really shows that they care about the community. We know they cannot manage to help us immediately but it shows that they are thinking about us, these laptops will enable us to work efficiently for our communities,” said Mr Baloyi from Danisani village.
Podile Primary School received 125 desks which is a double combination and carries 250 learners, 5 tables with drawers each and 5 chairs for the educators.
“We are glad and impressed by the work done by the mine and the municipality, not forgetting our main donor for the furniture Nale Holdings,” said Mr Lesibana Nkoko, the principal of Podile Primary School.
Mr Nale from Nale Holdings indicated that it was their pleasure to donate the furniture to the school as it is their main purpose to help the needy.
“We are building a united nation and these children and the school are the foundation on which we are building the future of this country. We are committed to ensure that all children have basic services that they can use on their education needs,” Said Mr Nale from Nale Holdings.
Cllr Sammy Letwaba, ward councillor from ward 18 appreciates the efforts took by the donors and indicated that as the municipality they are grateful that the mine is able to work with local business owners to uplift the community,” added Cllr Letwaba.
Lebang Gaobepe, Mogalakwena Platinum Mine Senior Social Perfomance Manager said,“We lose nothing by giving back to communities. Our administration is doing the little they could to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate. We want to ensure that a child will not miss a day of school because they have to sit on the bricks while in the classrooms.
