NYDA builds up unemployed youth in Elias Motsoaledi

By: Dan Mdluli

Eighty unemployed youth within the Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality (EMLM) have been absorbed into a
National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) apprenticeship programme, to be trained in electrical engineering,
diesel mechanics and carpentry.

The local municipality says the youth upliftment joint initiative is an effort of the local municipality, the
NYDA and the Services SETA, on a mission to eradicate skills challenges among young people.

Simon Makuwa, EMLM Communications Officer, says a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between EMLM and NYDA and that the skills programme was launched on Friday 08 December last year at the council
chamber.

Julia Mathebe, EMLM Mayor has encouraged the beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunity as the training would equip them with essential skills they will require when seeking employment or starting their own
businesses.

“We are not giving you fish, because that is not sustainable, instead we are teaching you how to fish so you
can go out there and start to feed your families,” advises Mathebe.

  1. Dear EMLM stuff

That’s sound great indeed. I am young and energetic man who has the significant business concept which is going to benefit plenty of the youth in our environment however can contain also dearth number of elders in order to cultivate the knowledge. If I apply as an individual for monetary aid to establish my small business what would be important prerequisites, becouse I only have cipc certificate? Please grant me with information.
